Why You Should Quit Your Job and Go Travelling

Have you ever dreamed of traveling the world? Are there amazing places you long to see or experiences you would love to have, before life passes you by? If you have answered in the affirmative to either of these questions; what’s holding you back? Unfortunately, many people are not living the life they want. Along the way they have downsized their dreams and find themselves trapped in a life that bears little resemblance to their true desires. The idea of quitting your job, packing your bags and venturing forth to experience all that the world has to offer can be a daunting prospect. But for those people who have taken the leap, it has proved to be one of the most rewarding and in many cases, life changing, things they have ever done.

One of the reasons people decide to quit their jobs and follow their passion for travel is that they are trapped in job that is neither satisfying nor fulfilling. Unless you wake up eager to get to work, you love what you do, and you like and respect the people you work with, you have to ask yourself what you are getting out of your job. In the long run, salary, benefits or the possibility of advancement, isn’t enough if you don’t actually enjoy your job.

A story we hear all too often these days, is of the loyal employee who has devoted twenty or more years working for a company, only to be told that their services are no longer required as the company is downsizing or restructuring. After years of putting the demands of the workplace before their own needs and dreams, they find themselves banished from a job that they may not have actually enjoyed all that much, but they stuck with it because they thought they were investing in their future.

Travel can open you up to new possibilities. If you aren’t passionate about your job, you’re in the wrong job. The path to true happiness, fulfillment and success is to find your passion and follow it. Giving up a job that’s not right for you and spending time experiencing new people and different cultures can give you a whole new perspective on life in general and ultimately lead to a fulfilling career change.

If your dream is to travel, there is only one person who can make that dream a reality. If like most people, you are convinced that you can’t afford to take a year or more to just travel, a good first step is to take an honest look at your financial priorities. Ask yourself how much money you have spent in the past couple of years accumulating stuff. Those people, who have made the decision to leave their lives behind for a time and go traveling, generally afford it one of two ways. They either live frugally for a couple of years in advance, saving as much as they can, or they sell everything; their homes; their cars and much of their stuff. They are fully committed to following their dreams.

If you dream of traveling the world you owe it to yourself to see where those dreams will take you. One thing you can be sure of is that if you put it off long enough, it will never happen.
